Pre Driver Training
Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service & Phoenix Services are passionate about reducing accidents on Cornwalls roads.
Figures show that 1 in 5 new drivers has a crash within one year of qualifying, and that an 18 year old driver is over 3 times more likely to be involved in a crash than a mature driver.
Young males aged between 17 and 20 years are almost ten times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than more experienced drivers, and the leading cause of death among teenage girls is being killed in road accidents by their boyfriends’ negligent driving – particularly speeding.
Changing attitudes to driving before the actual process begins could help reduce figures shown above.
An evaluation by Rospa of Pre-Driver Training with an in-car element produced the following results:
- a 20% reduction in crash risk was found for young drivers who had completed a pre-driver education course with an in-car component
- an approximately 20% reduction in injury crash risk was found for young drivers who had completed a pre-driver education course with an in-car component
- a 30% reduction in single vehicle crash risk was found for young drivers who had completed a pre-driver education course with an in-car component
Using our training facilities at Portreath, we want to facilitate days that show young people not just how to drive safely but the importance of car maintenance, driving to arrive as well as a practical driving experience in a controlled and safe off road environment.
